Is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date watch good enough for an X-Men star?

April 2024 · 2 minute read

When English actor Nicholas Hoult, star of the X-Men movie Dark Phoenix, walked the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival, the paparazzi went crazy, responding not only to the 29-year-old’s chiselled looks, but also to what he was flaunting on his wrist: a Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date.

Which of these 5 luxury watches is the thinnest in the world?

The watch is equipped with two crowns and a rotating inner bezel to measure dive time. And despite its elegance, the Polaris is really a diver’s watch that can be used to a depth of 200 metres.

To see what is going on in the deep sea, or in the dark throngs of metropolitan nightlife, the baton-shaped hands and trapezoidal hour markers are painted with Super-LumiNova tinted vanilla in a design nod to the hues of the 1960s.

This design is also clearly flirting with the 1956 Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox, famous among watch buffs as the first automatic wristwatch with a mechanical alarm.

However, the vintage-inspired look has been mixed with a contemporary twist, seen clearly in the shortened lugs, the softly curved crowns, the Clous de Paris-patterned rubber bracelet, the sapphire glass box crystal and the double gradient dial. This last shows off hand-lacquered techniques with a central sunrayed finish surrounded by grained and opaline finishes.

Last but not least, the dial’s deep-blue colour scheme is also a perfectly on trend with the current popularity of blue dials.
